i've lost the ability to dedicate an entire post to a single subject.
frankly, i live my life in pathetic snippets throughout the day (sleep, shit, eat, work, eat, work, eat, tv, sleep) and none of these moments add up to a worthy blog post.
so the only way i can really blog is to make random lists of the precious little events that occur in my life, with said list embellished with a smattering of thoughts other than "oh my god, i'm so exhausted." that float into my head once and again.
so here i go:
1. i learned all about nick jr. and noggin shows from anthony bourdain's blog today. i know it doesn't sound right when you say it out loud, but give it a try anyway and read it. it's good stuff. his thoughts on dora and diego, i thought, were especially insightful. and i also found out that if you let your kids watch tv enough, they'll learn how to speak mandarin!
2. the ny times just featured a website called www.justbento.com. i'm totally hooked. it's fascinating! i must go make little vegetable bunnies to include in my lunch bento!!!! i'm seriously considering buying some triangular rice molds and a plastic hello kitty bento box... god, my inner korean girl is SCREAMING to be let out.
3. i read julie & julia, decided i must have a copy of julia child's cookbook, bought said cookbook, and determined that julie powell really must have been nuts to make every single recipe in the book. meat jelly? really? that sounded like a good idea to you? i have, however, flagged a nice handful of dishes that i'd like to try out in my lifetime. i'm starting with the chocolate mousse. my mini-bundt pan is ready to go. come on by. the other 5 mini-bundt-shaped-mousse-molds would love to be eaten. by you, even!
4. at 2:25 in the morning, making a random list seems like a huge chore. which is the reason why my blog posts are infrequent, as i tend to blog when insomnia kicks in, and why the posts are getting shorter by the minute.
okay, my brain's checking out. that's all.
(5. making a list at 2:25 in the morning leads to many mistakes in a blog post, which then requires subsequent editing along with self-chastising for my inability to proofread/plan ahead. it's a vicious cycle.)
Because let's face it. Blogs are vanity projects... and this blog is all about me.

boo jimmy fallon
jimmy fallon is such a piss poor replacement for conan. he's not funny, his skits are flat, he can't carry an interview, and the only legitimate reason to watch his show is the roots.
god, i hope this is just an awkward phase, otherwise my insomnia driven late nights are going to really suck.

oh, and on a side note
i randomly found a sonic on a road trip back in february and finally tried their tater tots and cherry slushie (thanks s.t. for the menu choice recommendation!).
now i've realized what i've been missing and i must write to the sonic guys every week to beg them to open a store near me.
i only write this because i realize i posted a little while back about sonic, and this is a very significant development on that front...

it's been way too long since my last post
i've always been bad with journals. i've got half-filled diaries in three or four different boxes on both coast of the country. my intentions are good. i love the idea of a written chronicle of my life. i get a hoot out of reading my journal from the sixth grade, entries gushing about cute boys, my first shared box of milk duds, a catty classmate, and dreams of marrying joey from nkotb.
i've always been better about blogging than writing, but i meant it when i said that facebook has killed my blog. look how long it's been since my last meaningful post on this thing. not that any of my posts was all that meaningful.
things worth mentioning:
paul and i celebrated our third wedding anniversary last month. i know it's such a major cliche, but time really does travel very fast. it seems like just yesterday i was partying at my own wedding reception. we celebrated this year's anniversary like the last - at someone else's wedding. i can't really complain. we had a night of good food, good music, good dancing, and a great open bar. besides, weddings are ridiculously romantic.
my husband makes the best bbq ribs i've ever tasted. the man knows how to keep his woman happy.
i watch jon & kate plus 8, although i find that i like the series less and less. i really enjoyed the earlier episodes, where the couple worked out how to be good parents to their 8 children. despite all the chaos, you could tell that they were good parents and had good philosophies about raising kids. now, the show is all about their train-wreck of a marriage, and it saddens me to see them unravel on national television. on the plus side, though, the show makes me extremely thankful for my own marriage and my husband. i know that i'm a lot like kate. i'm an extreme type A like she is, and i think i gobble up weak men for breakfast. so it's so fortunate that i found someone in my life who's strong enough to stand up to me and call me out on my bullshit, and he's smart enough to do it in a way that doesn't belittle or demean me.
i love stephen moyer and i think paul digs a blonde anna paquin. needless to say, we've thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 discs of true blood (season 1) and we can't wait to finish the season and wait for the next to come out on dvd.
most people know how much i love pink and black. i'm venturing out to greens and purples. i think this is the surest sign that i'm aging.
i haven't karaoked properly since cleveland. i have a list of songs i'm dying to try. i think a karaoke trip is in order very very soon. luckily, i think i finally have found a partner in crime. i'm sure paul is very relieved.
a friend from high school just recently commented that my parents pushed me very hard during high school. i'm really glad to hear that from someone other than myself. it validates some of the residual feelings i've been holding from my youth. i find, though, now that i'm grown-up, on my own, with the prospect of my own family in the future, i don't really resent my parents as much as i imagined i would when i was actually living with them. but then, they've mellowed quite a bit and turned out to be pretty cool people.
even though i preach medical adherence to my clients on a daily basis, i find myself to be a terrible adherence patient. i don't take pills on time, i don't follow doctor's orders, and i never put my health first. it's always work first, then i'll get to the rest later. but who has time to take care yourself when you're out of your home 12 hours a day for work? i do have my 3 month check up with my doctor this week and i'm very nervous that he'll have bad news for me. the last thing i want is to be put on a pump because i can't get my act together to manage the diabetes. this is one reason why our move in october is so crucial. i have to cut my commute time down, so i have some more down-time for myself. traveling for work for more than two and a half hours a day is really taking a toll on me. besides - i'm not a teenager any more. i need more than 4 hours of sleep a night.
my insomnia is back. i'm going to break down and finally ask for some ambien or something. i hate the idea of taking more pills but the lack of sleep is getting a bit ridiculous. (yes - it's 5:45 in the morning and i've had TWO hours of sleep so far).
i wonder as i type this really long personal post, if anyone still reads my blog...

yesterday, i heard a passenger on my bus tell another passenger to "shut up, and go to the back of the bus."
back of the bus?????
the day after a momentous inauguration?????
i felt my heart die a little...

kudos to five guys for using energy efficient bulbs in their light fixtures.
oh yeah, and they have rockin' burgers.
