someone, in a comment, noted that it is disappointing to see intelligent educated women pick political wives as heroes...
in response to that, i don't think hillary or heinz kerry are merely "political wives" who rode in on their husbands' successes. both women are accomplished in their own right. as for hillary, she's equally educated as her husband, had a magnificent law career (a better one than her husband for a while, actually), before she chose to support her husband's political career full time.
as for heinz kerry, the woman is highly educated, she had a career with the u.n. before her first marriage, she speaks five languages, and she's proving herself now by managing a giant estate and foundation flawlessly without her husband's help.
i think it's important to note that i don't like these ladies merely for their positions as first lady (or possible first lady) but for the qualities i like in them. like their strength, their spitfire personalities, their obvious intellect, their courage to speak out despite public denunciation of such showing, etc.
i'd also like to note that my open praise for hillary and heinz kerry does not mean i do not appreciate other women figures in this country. i choose to openly praise these two women because they've been criticized for being smart and independent in their roles as a politician's wife. i think it's important for me to show that americans, especially young, educated VOTING ones, appreciate a smart outspoken first lady.
i happen to like diane feinstein. she's my senator from california.
i also like barbara boxer. so much, that i even volunteered my summer with her.
sure, i do like my political wives too.
i like lots of people. women and men.
political or not.
i realize my blog highlights only a few aforementioned people... so i'll do my best in trying to highlight other "heroes" in my life.
