another openin' another show...

so i'm 27.
considering the fact that 27 is quite possibly the most unremarkable birthday, i had a fantastic day thanks to good friends, family, and a fabulous hubby-to-be.

the day started as any other - hectic. i was in court all morning, dealing with an unusually crazy case load. when i finally did walk back into the office, i was greeted with a perfectly frosted pink hostess cupcake (with sprinkles!) on my desk. happy birthday to me.

i then had lunch with coworkers, made crude jokes, laughed throughout the half hour, returned a couple of phone calls, and finally ditched my half-assed attempt at working mid afternoon.

i came home, just as my in-laws rolled into town. we waited for paul to come home from lab, then opened what seemed like a truckload of presents. fyi, i now have a fantastically adorned white denim jacket (with rhinestones and pearls!) to wear out. call me! i need to put it to use right away.

paul gave me a pair of earrings which i will save for the wedding. it's a jackie kennedy replica, and i absolutely love them. so glamorous. and it'll mean a lot that he got them for me (as opposed to something i picked off a carousel at the mall).

i then ran off to happy hour (i was summoned to appear at 5:30) to find that my friends had invited the entire defense bar along with my office out to drink with me. i don't think i paid for a single drink. i do remember the crooked bean. mmmmmm..... the crooked bean. (if you've been to madeline's in ithaca, you know what i mean).

mom and dad in law got to meet the local attorneys, trade stories, joke around about me (it comes with the territory). they also got to meet the owner of the restaurant (who conveniently is married to an attorney in town). she's a doll, and is a goddess when it comes to pastries (she makes all the desserts at maddy's!).

anyhow, i drank too much and ate too much... but otherwise, had a fantastic time. i think mom and dad were touched to see how my friends went out of their way to celebrate my birthday with me. paul and i are very blessed to have such good friends everywhere we go.

as for wedding news:
the invitations are out! we're already getting responses (i don't think we've gotten a single "no" yet). we have two months until the wedding, with a ton to do still. i just had my first fitting a week ago, so things are becoming very VERY real. we met with the judge who'll marry us to discuss the details of the ceremony. i think he'll do a beautiful job, considering he's such a close family friend. i'm finding out that most of my friends are coming, which makes me just so excited. i'd really like to share this transition in my life with everyone i love, and it means a lot to me that they're taking the time out to come share this with me.

okay. i'm starting to gush.
it's early morning, and qvc's on (i know. qvc. but they have fantastic stuff!).
maybe i'll go for a walk before everyone gets up.
maybe i'll just roll back into my warm bed.
i'll think about it while i wait for the post to publish...
