help, i'm a shallow girly girl

i've posted about this before - i'm totally leading a jeckyl and hyde kind of life. one minute, i'm a take-charge-i'm-a-capable-lawyer woman and the next i'm a i'm-addicted-to-mtv-cribs-and-i-might-be-addicted-to-shopping ditz.

with that note:
paul and i went to nyc for the weekend to join his friends. they had offered to take us out after every significant life event (passing the bar, getting engaged, etc) but we haven't really had the chance to take them up on the offer until now. we had a GRAND time. i LOVE new york city. paul and i've decided that nyc is quite possibly the perfect place for affluent childless couples. while we're certainly childless and a couple, we're definitely not affluent. hmm... problem #1.
of course, it doesn't help that all of paul's friends make too much money for their own good. but if they really want to blow lots of money on us over the weekend, i guess i can't complain.

what did we do...
we dined at a fantastic restaurant called beacon. i had what was quite possibly the BEST shrimp cocktail in my entire life. we also shopped on 5th avenue, walked around bloomingdales, had sushi uptown, and rode the tram to and from roosevelt island. my mom and i had a conversation about it during the weekend - i'm a city girl through and through. she thinks it's because i grew up in seoul that i only feel comfortable in a huge city like new york. she's right. when i saw the tall buildings, crowds of people, and the honking cabs, i felt like a huge weight lifted from me and i was completely at peace. i know. i'm weird.

anyhoo... going back to my first comment.
paul's friend make a joke about me and shopping. i'm wondering if the comment was prompted by his misguided notions about women, or some observation he's made about me. granted, i fully admit that i enjoy shopping. but i never thought shopping defined me as a person. i'm not happiest when i shop, am i?

also, if i love watching project runway, does that only reinforce that i am indeed a shallow ditz?

wow... i think this posting just answered my own question.
i need to work more, then i won't have this problem.

Sure, you roll into my city to visit friends and you don't drop me a line?? It's cool, I was up in Westchester for a day, and Marty and Ally were in town to entertain me. You guys should call the next time you drop in.

hey, speaking of project runway, you know, chloe? i have shopped at her boutique in Houston for years! in fact, she has custom fit one of her shirts for me. she's the sweetest person. i hope you are rooting for her!
